Still More Buenos Aires
Near the Recoleta cemetery there are these remarkable trees. Locals call them gomeros.
This single gomero was planted by the Recoleta brothers in 1809. The span of its branches is about 2/3rds of a football field. There are 9 park benches beneath it in the foreground.
The Hotel Hispano where we stayed on Avenida de Mayo was built in 1913. Its skylight is motorized and retracts to turn the atrium into a central courtyard. At the rear there is a rooftop garden. Price: $18 a night.
