Mendoza

Mendoza is a green oasis that sits in a high semi-arid desert. Mendoza acknowledges its debt to the pre-Incaic Huarpe culture that practiced irrigation in this area long before the arrival of the Spaniards.
A network of open irrigation channels run through most of Mendoza's streets to nourish the towns lush greenery.
Parque General San Martin is more than 1500 acres. These gates, originally designed for a Turkish Sultan, were forged in England.
We had some success getting the bikes serviced in Mendoza, but it occupied a good deal of our time. We would have loved to explore a bit more, but we were already running a little behind and there were some things we wanted to take care of in Santiago. Everyone we met who had made the trip raved about the Mendoza to Santiago crossing. An hour out of Mendoza we began to see why.
