Valle Sagrado III

At the furthest point reachable by road is the town of Ollantaytambo. By the time we reached here and ate lunch it was too late to climb to the ruins, so the photos here are all shot with telephoto.

From the town plaza, some of the sites appear to be carved into the mountain itself. Below is a more detailed look at one of the central structures, and the rock faced terraces that surround it.
One of the things that continues to impress me is how contemporary farmers, without the aid of sophisticated tools, and still using hoes and foot operated plows, are able to produce these extensive fields. Some of the fields appear to be too steep to even stand on, much less cultivate and harvest entirely by hand. The remains of Inca terraces are still visible everywhere you look.
